I have recently learned that my ancestor Reuben Calvert, lived in Midgley in the mid-1700s. Two of his sons Jonathan and William went on to manage Wainstalls Mills - I am descended from the youngest son Timothy Calvert (1778-1845). I would be interested in hearing from anyone interested in the local history/genealogy so I can learn more about my Midgley roots!

When I arrived in Midgley over 8 years ago....there was no organised committee othan a gardens one!!! I remember we sat round a table with Eileen and Pat and talked about setting something up!!!! I think it was at a progressive dinner....that was the main way we all had of meeting up, if i remember..right, Each time I returned from my travels more has been accomplished. I am leaving tomorrow to live nearer my family in Lincolnshire and I wish you all the best of luck with the latest project!!! The Old Co Op. Taking my ''shares'' with me!! Good Luck Midgley!!!
