Agnes Dransfield nee Bostock was born in 1903 and was a worsted spinner at Murgatroyd's from 1953 to 1966, she lived at Pleasant View and Goitside over her years married to Willie Dransfield and she passed away in 1993. Midgley Social Evening is set to become a regular event - we had a relaxed, interesting and informative evening listening to two very accomplished speakers. Thanks to Jerome for his talk on Materials - Why things break? And also to Mick for his talk and discussion on re-wilding.
Many thanks to Jerome for working on the pinfold. It looks amazing. Also a big shout out to the Gardening group, Sam Barker and Anne H for advice/help/plants & bark. Our pinfold ia quite rare, age unknown but it is thought that it dates to the 18th century. Pinfolds were where stray animals were impounded & owners paid a fine to get them back. Midgley's last pinder ( responsible for upkeep of pinfold & grazing animals on common land ) was John Scott who died in 1869
